Implementation: Non-negotiables

Calum MacRae Mar 13, 2020

How many times have you heard someone say, ‘My boss never tells us what is happening’, or ‘We are treated like mushrooms – kept in the dark and fed garbage’?

Implementation and Communication

With any Implementation in your business, you will require some non-negotiables to assist with a seamless transition. The basis for this is effective communication between all parties. For most people, understanding ‘the why’ goes a long way to creating positive and enthusiastic feelings about the task. It also helps them to take on the accountability of the system because they fully comprehend the impact on the business and the team.

Basic non-negotiables of any Implementation

  • Do what you say you will do
  • Meet or exceed all agreed deadlines
  • Lead by example – walk the walk
  • Ensure that everyone knows:

-Why they are doing what they are doing

-How they are to do it

-How it relates to the success of the business

-How it relates to the  strategic objectives and future plans of the business

When reviewing results of Implementation with EBS clients, success tends to be based upon ensuring that ALL of the above non-negotiable factors are met. A breakdown in one area will generally cause the entire process to pause or, worse still, fail.

Do you have an example where you have struggled or failed to implement a system or process in your business? Think about which area(s) of the non-negotiables were not achieved and how they can be improved.
