Ultimate Influence, Sales

How to maximise the return you get from your selling activities in your business.

If you are in business, you need to know how to promote yourself or your business in the most effective way.  It is an area that most people are really uncomfortable with and do poorly with.

My number one Tip

It is not about you so do not make it about you.

How often have you been in a conversation with a person that you have met for the 1st time? They speak for 90% of the conversation telling you all about what they do and how they do it? It happens a lot. How do you feel after that conversation ends? Do you feel a sense of connection with that person? Do you want to connect with them again? Unlikely so please don’t do that.

So how do you get your point across without doing all of the talking?

  1. Ask questions like a crazy person. Let them talk but let them talk about what is relevant to you and your product or service. This allows you to add value by telling a story or adding some advice that may be of benefit to them. Once you have added your story or titbit ask another question.
  2. By doing this while they are doing most of the talking you are controlling the conversation and where it is going. This ensures that you give yourself the best opportunity of showing your potential client all of the benefits of dealing with you. You also do not come across as a know-all show off because you are responding to their conversation.
  3. Listen, I mean really listen and respond with relevance. A lot of conversations are very one way, with people trying to get their bit in about how good they are or what they can do. As a result, the receiver often leaves the conversation feeling not great about the conversation and not feeling valued or heard.

If someone leaves a conversation with you, feeling valued, then they are likely to trust you in the future. People will only buy from you if they trust you

So, in summary, you need to:

  • Create stories around the benefits of your product or service,
  • Ask a lot of questions,
  • Listen and respond with relevance.

Guess what if you do all that you will not be selling but enjoying the conversation and creating trust.  Then the sales will come.
