People or Leadership: Where does the problem lie?

Calum MacRae Mar 19, 2020

As previously discussed, the E.S.I.P. Business Framework is not P.I.E.S. or S.P.I.E.

The order of E.S.I.P. is imperative because

  • You must have the right Environment to attract the right people.
  • You must have the right Structure for your people to enable you to measure, track and improve how you achieve your business goals.
  • You must have the right things being Implemented to enable your people to achieve both their own and the business goals.
  • You must have the right People doing what needs to be done so they can achieve both their own and the business goals.

Is it a People or Leadership problem?

Many business owners come to us with what they believe is a people problem. In reality, the problems they are experiencing are often a result of not having the right foundations in place to allow their people to succeed.

Ask yourself. Do we have:

  • A culture of success which is driven in part by agreed benchmarks that encourage growth and development?
  • A structure that supports these results?
  • Fully trained and engaged people?

If your business does not have all of these in place, you have a leadership issue, not a people problem.

‘People want guidance, not rhetoric. They need to know what the plan of action is and how it will be implemented. They want to be given responsibility to help solve the problem and the authority to act on it.’ ~Howard Schultz, Starbucks
